We're thrilled to have Kyle Norman join our team of trainers at Minnesota Top Team. Kyle is an MTT CrossFitter and now an MTT Personal Trainer. Get to know Kyle a little bit better (quite the impressive experience he's had!) here and be sure to say hello to him at MTT.
A little about me... I was born in Moorhead, MN and grew up in Glyndon, MN. I have always loved being active and participating in sports. I was never the kid to sit in front of the TV and play video games all day. In high school I played basketball and football. I got serious about strength and conditioning when I attended a summer speed and strength program when I was 16. It was at that moment I decided I wanted to be a personal trainer.
From there I mapped out my path and education to achieve my goal. I attended Minnesota State University Moorhead and graduated with a degreee in Exercise Science and Biology. In 2006 I was hired as a personal trainer at Fitness Together right out of college. 2007 led me to take a job with the YMCA in Downtown Minneapolis. I worked as a trainer for the Y until 2014 with a few other jobs at other gyms thrown in here and there.
In March of 2014 I took a job outside the fitness industry at Prime Therapeutics as a Quality Assurance Analyst. But fitness has and always will be my passion and I enjoy helping people so I hooked up with Jennie and Jeremy Clark and will start at MTT (MINNESOTA TOP TEAM) in Eagan as a personal trainer in May. As for my personal life, I am married and live in Apple Valley. My wife and I are expecting our first child in July and I am excited to experience the joys and excitment in becoming a parent.
My own personal fitness journey has been a mix of many different things. I competed in my first powerlifting event in 2007 and from there competed in about 3-4 events per year, I even participated in a Strongman event in 2010. In 2012 I made the switch from powerlifting to distance running and ran 3 half marathons and a Tough Mudder race in which I qualified for the World Toughest Mudder but got a stress fracture in my foot a month before the World event and did not compete. In 2013 I made a return to powerlifting and competed in 3 events with my best lifts being a 308 bench, 435 squat and a 530 deadlift.
In November 2013 I joined MTT CrossFit and have not looked back. My wife started the previous April and I witnessed her body change in a drastic way and saw how much she valued the workouts. I think CrossFit is a very efficient and effective way to get in great shape but I don't think it is the only way. I think that the best way to get in shape is doing what is fun for you and that you will enjoy doing enough to stay consistant. I have always heard and totally agree with this saying "the best program is the one that you believe in the most".
I have been a personal trainer now for 7 years and I have enjoyed being apart of my clients success stories. I believe that if you want to reach your goals in life you need commitment, dedication and discipline; the same goes for attaining your fitness goals. In my sessions I take a motivational, dynamic approach to help empower my clients to reach their full potential. As rewarding as the end result is, its the process; the plateaus, the struggles and the hard work that I think my clients should be the most proud of. Today in the fitness world there are so many products that offer "quick" results and market to people who may lack knowledge in nutrition and exercise science. I try to educate my clients in these areas so that the can make informed decisions when confronted with these products.
We always want that instant gratification and will invest in these snake oil products. I challenge my clients and everyone in general to do it the right way, put in the hard work. I can gaurantee that you will be way more satisfied of your accomplishments when you put the accountability on your self versus taking the easy way out.
Thank you, Kyle!
