May is shaping up to be a big month here at MTT and these are the dates and changes you need to know about.
MAY 4: We will be hosting a CrossFit Event here and the gym will be closed all day. There will be NO CLASSES or OPEN GYM. The event is a large event that draws people from all over the Twin Cities and beyond and you are welcome to come by and cheer on and watch! We have several of our own competing that day too and they'd love to see some familiar faces cheering them on. Here is a link to get all the details.
MAY 11: We are hosting another Women's Only Intro to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Self Defense seminar. This is a FREE event that only happens twice a year so don't miss it! Tell your friends and sisters and moms and everyone - this event is open to everyone, not just MTT members. It is for ages 14+ and you will learn an intro to the basics of Jiu Jitsu and some fundamental self defense moves. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early because we will start on time at NOON. Wear comfortable workout-type clothes.
May 26: We are very excited to be hosting another MURPH event here! MURPH is a classic CrossFit workout that is in honor of Michael Patrick "Murph" Murphy (7 May 1976 – 28 June 2005), who was a United States Navy SEAL officer who was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan.
This is a fun day to bring your fit friends and family to join you in a workout for a great cause or to simply cheer everyone on. The cost is $35 and includes a t-shirt or tank top, food, fitness, pick up volleyball, and hang out time with proceeds donated to the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. We appreciate a $5 donation for spectators. The event will start sharp at 9am, doors open at 8am so get their early to get signed in. This is open to everyone - not just MTT members. **Anyone participating under age 14 will have to be partnered with an adult.** This workout can be done as prescribed or scaled, individual or with a partner. This is not a competition (there will no be any judges) just a FUN day/event for a good cause. Register in person at MTT, call us at 651-340-4349, or register online here.
BOXING News: MTT Boxer Gavin Hendrickson is making a name for himself in the midwest! His record is now 55 and 20 with his latest win giving him the Region 2 Golden Gloves Championship belt. You'll find Gavin in here every week with the rest of our competition boxing team and our dedicated Comp Coaches, Roy and John.
Our Kids Boxing program has exploded. If you've been in here at 5:30pm you've seen the (controlled) mayhem that has become kids boxing. To make room for even more kids to join our program we have split up the classes into Kids Boxing for ages 5-9 and Youth Boxing for ages 10-13. Check our website for schedule details and remember the first class is always free so get your kids in here for some fun physical fitness in a safe environment that does amazing things for their confidence and fitness.
JIU JITSU News: We are so proud of our head coach, Zach, on achieving a lifetime goal of getting is black belt. This is such a high honor and we couldn't be more proud of him and to have him leading us in our Jiu Jitsu journey.
We also celebrated some new Blue Belt promotions last weekend (congrats to everyone on their BLUEs!) followed by a chili cook off which was a huge hit. Congrats to Michelle on winning the best chili award, Phil took second and Lisa got third - well done! Yum!
We have some exciting changes coming to our BJJ schedule with added competition-focused classes for both adults and kids!
CROSSFIT News: Our 6-week FIT Challenges have been going GREAT with everyone working hard. We are currently in our third run and we've had a high percentage of them become FIT and CrossFit members afterwards. The FIT classes are open to all of our CrossFit members and it's been fun to see them getting in there and mixing up their workouts.
Some of our CrossFit coaches competed in a competition in Mankato over the weekend and just barely missed a podium finish. Those competitions can be hard both physically and mentally because of all the down time but our team did awesome and proudly represented MTT. Congrats to Jules, Zac and Mary!
That's it for this month's updates - we'll see you in the gym!
