Bullying: An MTT perspective

We're almost through the month of October, which is National Bullying Prevention month. We've been talking about it a lot on Facebook but more needs to be said.

Bullying is real.  We've all seen it or been a part of it one way or another and at Minnesota Top Team we've got both kids and adult members who have had to face it head on very recently.

no bullyOne of our Kid Boxers was getting picked on right away when this school year started. Everyday while walking home after getting off the school bus an older bigger kid was chasing him, pushing him down, calling him names and just making fun of him. He didn't want to go to school, he didn't want to get on or off the bus.  He started coming to our kid's boxing classes and it's starting to make him feel stronger, he feels special because he's doing something very unique, and he's gaining confidence; he feels like he's more capable of protecting himself if he ever has to.  His confidence isn't turning him into a fighter or an instigator, it's turning him into a kid who carries himself better.  Bully's don't mess with confident kids for very long. MTT Kids Boxing

Another one of our MTT members faced a different situation.  His daughter was beaten up by her boyfriend, badly, to the point of putting her in the hospital.  He felt helpless. He felt rage. He felt like in the shape he was in, he'd never have been able to do anything to protect her even if the opportunity was there.  So he found Minnesota Top Team. He's learning how to protect himself, he's getting healthier, he's providing a great example to his daughter (and his friends and family) by taking charge of his health, he too is gaining confidence and learning better ways to protect himself and his family.

I hear the guys talking a lot about their love of Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu is basically an art where you learn to control your opponent on the ground.  Any guy will tell you that every fight, no matter what, always ends up going to the ground.  Whether it's two idiots going at it in a bar or someone protecting themselves from an attacker, it's going to wind up on the ground.  Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to control, win and end the fight when it gets there.  BJJ at MTT

We offer training for boxing, MMA, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - none of these things are intended to create violence. It is THE OPPOSITE of that.  You train, you get stronger, you get more confident
